Ribbon Cutting at Grand Opening

Ribbon Cutting at Grand Opening

Thanks to the 200+ friends who came out to celebrate the Grand Opening of our new bookshop last week! It was a delightful, spirited evening full of positive energy & warm wishes with a standing room only crowd. Come back soon to visit and browse when it isn’t so crowded!! If you missed the party, be sure to swing by and take a look at our newly remodeled space. We’re still stocking the shelves, but we’re getting more inventory every day, and we’re ready to rumble! Thanks again to all our supporters! You make our world go round. Cheryl Popp

Sausalito Books by the Bay is a community supported independent bookstore providing the finest in reading enjoyment for the people of Sausalito, our neighbors, friends, family and visitors from around the world.

We like to think of ourselves as a community center, carrying on the tradition of bookstores from the past.

Why a bookstore in Sausalito?

Mostly because the residents want one. Also because every town needs one. Especially because reading and learning must always be encouraged.

Books provide ongoing education, insight and inspiration; they can take you to faraway places. You can travel forward or back in time. They can offer healing and hope and adventure.  They can help you dream.

There is nothing like holding a real book in your hand. Or talking to a bookseller who is passionate about books and can take you on a tour of every bookshelf in the shop.

"Bookstores find growth as anchors of authenticity ... big chains once posed a threat, but independents are thriving by hosting events, adding non-book merchandise and becoming community hubs." New York Times

One of Poland's most celebrated authors, Olga Tokarczuk received the 2018 Man Booker International Prize for her highly acclaimed novel Flights.

Her latest novel, the fairy tale thriller Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, was longlisted for the 2019 National Book Award in Translated Literature and is a finalist for the 2019 Booker International Prize.

“For the first time in its 118-year history, the Swedish Academy announced two Nobel Prizes in Literature: one for 2018 and one for 2019. The previously cancelled 2018 prize will be awarded to Olga Tokarczuk, while the 2019 prize will go to Peter Handke in a December ceremony. The Nobel Prize honors an author's contribution to literature as a whole and considers their full body of work.”
